What types of applications are available for laminar flow hoods?

The laminar flow hood has a simple structure and low mass construction costs, making it easier to expand the clean room. In some special applications, laminar flow hoods can also be used together with a clean workbench to improve the level of the clean room. What types of laminar flow hoods are available?

Laminar flow hoods can be divided into two forms, namely laminar flow type and composite type.

1. Laminar flow:

The airflow of the laminar flow hood shows a uniform straight-line shape. The air enters the room from the filter with 100% coverage and then returns from the raised floor or partitions on both sides. This laminar flow hood is suitable for higher levels of cleanliness. Room, usually in the Class 1~100 range. Specifically, laminar flow hoods are divided into horizontal laminar flow and vertical laminar flow.

(1) Horizontal laminar flow hood: The air is blown out from the air filter in one direction, and then flows back through the return air system on the opposite wall. The dust is discharged outdoors with the airflow. This kind of laminar flow hood has a simple structure and can reach a stable state in a short time after operation, but from an economic point of view, it may cause serious pollution to one side.

(2) Vertical laminar flow hood: The ceiling of the room is completely protected by the ULPA air filter, and the air is blown in from top to bottom to achieve higher cleanliness. Dust generated during the process or by workers will be quickly discharged outside and will not affect other working areas. This kind of laminar flow hood is simple to manage, can reach a stable state in a short time, and will not affect the work and workers.

    2. Compound type

Another form is the composite laminar flow hood, which combines turbulent flow and laminar flow. Composite laminar flow hoods can provide local ultra-clean air. There are several different applications for composite laminar flow hoods.

(1) Clean tunnel: Use HEPA or ULPA air filters to improve the cleanliness level of the process area or work area to above level 10, thereby saving operating costs.

(2) Combined installation of partial clean rooms: Improve the cleanliness level of the product process area in the turbulent flow clean room with a clean room level of 10,000-100,000 to above 10-1000.

(3) Clean pipes: Improve the cleanliness level to above level 100 through automatic production lines that surround and purify the product process. In this case, products, workers, and dust-generating environments are isolated from each other. Only a small amount of air supply is needed to achieve good cleanliness and save energy. It is suitable for manual-free automated production lines in the pharmaceutical, food, and semiconductor industries.

(4) Clean studio: It uses its own HEPA or ULPA air filter and air conditioning fan unit to surround electrostatically transparent plastic in a small space in a turbulent clean room. This kind of clean studio has a grade of 10 to 1000, a height of less than 2.5 meters, a coverage area of less than 10 square meters, and can be installed with sports wheels, which are very flexible and convenient.

Therefore, depending on the specific requirements and circumstances, the appropriate type and form of laminar flow hood can be selected to provide a clean environment that meets the requirements. At the same time, it is recommended to consult professional engineers and purification equipment suppliers to ensure that the specific needs of the clean room are met and that relevant safety and regulatory standards are met.
