The four main cleanliness levels of a cleanroom and the range of applications

Cleanroom is a specialized environment that is widely used in high precision manufacturing industry. Its cleanliness requirements can be divided into four main levels according to different application scenarios and needs: Class 100 cleanroom, Class 1000 cleanroom, Class 10,000 cleanroom, and Class 100,000 cleanroom. In this article, we will explain these four cleanliness levels and put forward suggestions for different levels to help you better understand and apply cleanrooms.


I. Class 100 Cleanliness Level: Cleanroom Level Class 100 is the highest level of cleanliness required. It is used in areas with extremely high cleanliness requirements, such as semiconductor manufacturing, photolithography, and microelectronics manufacturing. At this level, the concentration of 0.5-micron particles allowed in the cleanroom does not exceed 100 per cubic foot.

In class 100 cleanliness cleanroom applications, airborne particles must be strictly controlled by adopting a highly efficient air filtration system and regular testing and maintenance of filters. At the same time, the source of fine dust also needs to be effectively controlled, such as reducing the dust generated by equipment and production process optimization.

II. Class 1,000 Cleanliness Level: The cleanroom class Class 1,000 cleanliness level is suitable for industries that require a higher level of cleanliness, such as pharmaceutical production, precision instrument manufacturing, and so on. At this level, the concentration of 0.5-micron particles allowed in the cleanroom is no more than 1,000 particles per cubic inch.

Applications at the Class 1000 cleanliness level require the use of an effective air filtration system and the addition of routine cleaning and maintenance measures to ensure indoor particulate control. In addition, strict management of equipment and personnel is also the key to improving cleanliness.

III. Class 10,000 cleanliness level: Cleanroom class 10,000 cleanliness level is suitable for industries with less demanding cleanliness requirements, such as biotechnology, laboratories, and so on. At this level, the allowable concentration of 0.5-micron particles in the cleanroom is no more than 10,000 per cubic foot.

In Class 10,000 cleanliness level applications, a good hygienic environment needs to be maintained with regular cleaning and disinfection. The selection and maintenance of air filtration systems are also critical to ensure cleanliness requirements.

IV. One hundred thousand cleanliness level: Cleanroom level one hundred thousand cleanliness level applies to the cleanliness requirements of the general industry, such as precision equipment manufacturing, food processing, etc. At this level, the concentration of particles allowed in the clean room is not more than 100,000 per cubic meter.

In the application of class 100,000 cleanliness level, it is necessary to reasonably select and configure the air filtration equipment, and at the same time strengthen the daily cleaning and maintenance work. Maintaining indoor hygiene and environmental stability are also important measures.

The four levels of clean room cleanliness apply to different industries and applications.
