Difference between airflow pass box and laminar flow pass box

Both air shower transfer windows and laminar flow transfer windows are auxiliary equipment for clean rooms, which are used for the transfer of items between different clean areas. Still, there are significant differences in working principle, structure, purification effect, and application scenarios:
1. How it works
Air shower transfer window: Spray the surface of items through high-speed air flow (wind speed up to 20m/s or more), using clean air to remove dust and microorganisms. The airflow is circulated through the primary effect and high-efficiency filter to form a dynamic purge effect.
Laminar flow transfer window: Using laminar flow technology, the air is sucked from the top or one side by the fan, filtered by the high-efficiency filter to form a stable unidirectional air flow (wind speed 0.38-0.57m/s), to create a clean environment of more than 100 levels inside the transfer window to prevent external pollution from entering.
2. Structural design
Air shower transfer window: This window usually contains an air shower room, fan, nozzle, primary/high-efficiency filter, and interlocking door. Some are equipped with an ultraviolet sterilization lamp. The inner wall is mostly made of stainless steel, and the structure is relatively compact.
Laminar flow transfer window: adopts double-layer stainless steel shell, internal arc treatment to reduce dust accumulation, laminar flow fan, and high-efficiency filter (H14 level) are set on the top or side, and the bottom is designed to punch the return air plate, forming the airflow mode of sending up and down. Some models are equipped with differential pressure displays, UV lamps, and lighting.
3. Purification effect
Air shower transfer window: The main removal of pollutants on the surface of the item, the purification level is usually thousands, suitable for scenes with high requirements for the cleanliness of the surface of the item.
Laminar flow transfer window: maintain the internal cleanliness of more than 100 levels (such as B level) through stable laminar flow, which can effectively block external pollution into the clean area, suitable for occasions with high environmental cleanliness requirements (such as biopharmaceuticals, high-precision electronics).
4. Application scenario
Air shower transfer window: suitable for transferring small items requiring surface cleaning between clean and unclean areas, such as pharmaceutical packaging materials, laboratory equipment, etc.
Laminar flow transfer window: mainly used for the transfer of items between high cleanliness areas (such as GMP workshops, and biosafety laboratories), to ensure that the clean environment is not destroyed during the transfer process, in line with the requirements of the new GMP specification.
5. Functional features
Air shower transfer window: with fast fast-blowing function, can set the blowing time (such as 15 seconds), some models are equipped with an electronic interlock and ultraviolet sterilization.
Laminar flow transfer window: emphasizes the continuous self-cleaning ability, which needs to meet the strict self-cleaning time (such as ultraviolet irradiation ≥15 minutes), and some models integrate differential pressure monitoring, air flow pattern testing, and other verification functions.
Sum up
The air shower transfer window is mainly dynamic purging, focusing on the surface cleaning of articles; The laminar flow transfer window is mainly maintained in a static clean environment, focusing on protecting the overall cleanliness of the clean area. The selection should be evaluated according to the actual requirements (such as cleanliness level, item characteristics, and compliance requirements).
